Nic Wessemius appointed as new Managing Director of FMO IM.September 5, 2023
As per today, Nic Wessemius is appointed as Managing Director of FMO Investment Management BV (FMO IM).
Nic Wessemius co-established FMO IM with former Managing Director Yvonne Bakkum in late 2012, and developed it into an investment firm in 2015. In little over a decade FMO IM invested well over USD 1 billion for institutional and private investors, supporting an estimated 125,000 jobs and avoiding roughly 400,000t GHG emissions.
Since 2012 Nic Wessemius was responsible for business development and investment solutions for FMO Investment Management. In this role he played a pivotal part in co-developing all the fund strategies and structures for which FMO IM currently operates and will operate in the near future. These new fund strategies have helped FMO to become a frontrunner among DFIs in mobilizing private capital for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and bringing this at scale.
Nic joined FMO in 2005 as a Senior Investment Officer in the Financial Markets team. In this position, he was responsible for loan syndications in Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America. He also worked on various structured finance solutions for microfinance and SME portfolios such as CLOs and first loss products.
Huib-Jan de Ruijter, co-Chief Investment Officer FMO: “We are very happy that Nic, as one of the founding members, has accepted the role of Managing Director of FMO Investment Management. We are fully confident that he will be able continue to attract more private capital to invest alongside FMO in support of the SDGs. He has been a vital part in building this successful new line of impactful business for FMO.”
Nic: “It is a great honor to take over the role as Managing Director of FMO Investment Management. Over the past decade we have built a solid foundation to scale up impact investing for a wide range of investors, generating attractive impact, risk and return. Building on FMO’s experience we intend to grow our portfolios in the near future. The SDGs require trillions of investments each year and while we are not able to service that much capital ourselves, we are very capable of mobilizing from millions to billions by leveraging FMO’s progression model.”
